Even a particular step can be divided into further steps, for example, preparing for admission test may consist of preparation for written test, preparation for interview and group discussion after you have appeared in the written test, and so on.
While translating your goals into manageable steps, follow matching principle. When you wear a suit, you do something like this. You select a suit that matches your personality, you select tie and shirt that match your suit, and you select socks and shoes that match your suit. Every thing ultimately matches your personality. In the same way, whatever steps you adopt for achieving your goals must match these goals. In the absence of such a matching, your efforts are likely to turn into wastage in the proportion in which this mismatching takes place.
While translating your goals into manageable steps, you must ensure that these are executable and not just fascinating. I am sure you must know the story ‘who will bell the cat’. To recapitulate: in an abandoned house, there were many mice. Along with them, there was a cat too. The cat used to come silently and catch a mouse and eat it. In this process, the number of mice went on decreasing. Perturbed by this situation, all the mice assemble together and deliberated about how to get rid of such a situation. After deliberating for some time, the eldest came with a wonderful suggestion and told in the meeting, “I think the best way to refrain the cat fro catching us is to bell the cat.” On this suggestion, a comparatively younger use said, “But who will bell the cat?” Te eldest mouse replied, “Preparing plan is my job, execution is other’s job.” In the case of a mice, this approach may work but not in your case. You are responsible for both, preparation of plans (read steps) and their execution.
