Differentiation strategy
Differentiation strategy is based on the theme: in a contest, the winner does the thing differently. If the winner does the same way the looser does, the winner may not win; he can win only when he has more capabilities. With more capabilities, anyone can be a winner. Then what is the role of strategy about which people talk with so much fascination? In reality, you will find that more capable people are not always winner; in many cases, they are outclassed by people with lesser capabilities. This happens because the people with lesser capabilities adopt differentiation strategy.

Blue ocean strategy

In business world, differentiation strategy is known as red ocean strategy, adopting different strategy as compared to competitors in the existing market. Blue ocean strategy is relevant to un chartered area, the area which has either not been tried by others or not tried by others successfully. For example, most of the people know the name of the astronauts who went to moon first but these very people do not remember the names of those persons who reached there subsequently. There are numerous such examples. The question is: who makes this happen? The answer is: persons who have done a significant thing first in un chartered areas. Though blue ocean strategy has emerged from business area, it can be applied in any area.

You can adopt blue ocean strategy by identifying the areas which has not been tried by others earlier. Based on your background and imagination, you can find these areas. After identifying these areas, you can evaluate what you can do depending on the possibilities that exist, type of efforts required, and your own capabilities.

When you try to do something new, you may have pains, miseries, and frustration too. But when you get a satisfactory result, you will forget all these pains, miseries and frustration. Is that not a good payoff? You can corroborate this fact from a woman who has just become  a mother for the first time.
