Take corrective measures
When you compare your performance results with standard set for these, you may find the result of this comparison in either of two forms. First, your performance result matches the standards set. In this case, you are not required to take any corrective measure for as you are proceeding in right direction. The only thing that you have to ensure is that you have set challenging standards for yourself. Second, your performance results fall below the standards. In this case, you have to take corrective measures. For this purpose, analyze the factors which are responsible for mismatch between performance results and standards.

There may be three types of factors responsible for this mismatch:
- Your efforts fall short of the efforts required to achieve the standards. In this case, increase the level of your efforts. With increased level of efforts, you will be able to meet your standards.
- Your efforts may be adequate but they are not properly directed. In such a case, change the direction of efforts. With the kind of change, you can channelize your efforts to meet the standards.
- Your standards might be too high to be met within the constraints in which you are working. These constraints may be in two forms – your own capabilities and environmental pressures. Immediately, you cannot overcome these but certainly you can overcome these in the long run. So long as you are not able to overcome these constraints, work with revised standards. When you overcome the constraints, you can re-revise your revised standards.
