Emotional Breakout is for a moment but its effect is long lasting and comes in the way of achieving excellence. Therefore, those who strive for excellence control their emotions; those who do not strive for excellence are controlled by their emotions. We can not do away with our emotions entirely but we can manage them to keep them in right proportion by using our emotional intelligence. An emotion refers to a kind of feeling with its distinctive psychological states and to act with these states. There are numerous emotions and their blends. Some of common emotions and their blends with which we encounter more frequently are as follows: 1.Enjoyment: happiness, joy, sensual pleasure, gratification, satisfaction, and at the extreme end, mania. 2.Love: acceptance, friendliness, trust, kindness, affinity, and devotion. 3.Anger: fury, outrage, resentment, annoyance, hostility, and, at the extreme end, pathological hatred and violence. 4.Fear: anxiety, apprehension, nervousness, misgiving, dread, fright ness, and panic. 5.Sadness: grief, sorrow, cheerlessness, gloom, dejection, and depression. 6.Shame: guilt, embarrassment, humiliation, and regret. 7.Surprise: wonder, astonishment, amazement, and shock. What is common with all these emotions is that these are found in all types of people in varying proportion and affect their behavior. When these emotions are at optimum level, they affect behavior positively. When they cross the optimum level which is known as emotional outbreak, they affect behavior negatively. Management of emotions involves keeping them at optimum level. This is true for managing positive emotions like enjoyment, love, etc. and their different forms as well as negative emotions like anger, fear, etc. and their different forms. For managing emotions to keep them at optimum level, a new type of intelligence has been coined which is known as emotional intelligence and is measured in terms of emotional quotient ( EQ ) just as mental intelligence is measured in terms of intelligence quotient ( IQ ). Emotional intelligence involves knowing what feels good, what feels bad, and moving from bad to good. It involves emotional awareness and developing emotion management skills which enables you to balance emotions and reasons to maximize your long term goal achievement. In today’s context, emotional intelligence has become very important in doing something meaningful because of various types of environmental factors and pressures that may tend to disturb you emotionally. Even your success itself may become a source of irritation to others. Mother Teresa has said: If you are successful, you may win false friends but true enemies. Succeed anyway. Therefore, it is worthwhile to see how emotional intelligence contributes in traveling on the path of achieving success through excellence un interruptive.
