Another method of learning from others’ experience is through personal contacts with those to whom you perceive as high achievers in your field. When you read about a high achiever without meeting him personally, you may form an opinion that the person has some exceptional qualities because of which he has achieved something meaningful. When you meet him personally, you may feel that he does not have exceptional qualities but only exceptional way of working. Someone said:
Those who have achieved excellence are the most common people but they have done things in the most uncommon way.
It is doing a thing in an uncommon way that differentiates high achiever from low achievers or non achievers. High achievers follow in practice what they say. One industrialist came to deliver lecture to MBA students. The topic was very informal and he emphasized three elements for success: clarity and sincerity of goals, foresight, and hard work. After the lecture was over and every one came out of lecture hall, one student asked his professor, “what is new in his lecture? I know about all these three elements. But how many of us put these elements in practice?’ A high achiever may not give you anything theoretically about success but he gives a lot practically.
