More and more land:
A king announced that he would allot that much of land of his kingdom to a person which he would measure by walking on his feet from sun rise to sun set. A man become very happy over this announcement and approached the king to measure the land. The king narrated the condition and the man agreed with that. The man became very anxious in the night in thinking about the land he would measure the next morning. He could not sleep properly.
At the time of sun rise, he started measuring the land. Few persons from king’s side also accompanied him to see how much land he measured that would be given to him along with food, water and other necessary items. The man started measuring the land. When the time of breakfast came, people accompanying him offered the breakfast but the man refused saying, “No, no. I will not take breakfast. I have to measure lot of land as I need it. Taking breakfast means my time will be spoiled and I will be able to measure lesser land.” People did not offer any comment on this.
The same thing happened at the lunch time. He did not even drink water to save the time. In this process, sun set was quite near but the man was too away from the destination at which he started his walking. To make up the time, he started running. Since he was hungry and thirsty, he could not make the mark and fell on the ground and died. His last words were, “had I been not too greedy.”
People who adopt unethical practices are like this greedy man. What they accumulate by such practices what they feel are important but that are not so really important for the life.
Look what money can do or cannot do if earned by unethical practices:
A ring but not marriage.
A house but not a home.
A bed but not sleep.
A clock but not more time.
Medicine but not health.
Food but not appetite.
Finery but not beauty.
Companions but not friends.
Book but not wisdom.
Amusement but not happiness.
See whether people earning money though unethical practices can buy things which are more important or the things which this money cannot buy are more important. This happens because unethical people remain busy in protecting themselves from the wrath of legal provisions most of the time. In such a situation, will they enjoy a comfortable and peaceful life?
