FACTORS THAT SHAPE VALUES

superjobsonline

Values are not natural but learned phenomena and are inculcated over the period of time by different organs of the society in which you live. These social organs are: Family, Education system, Social groups, and Social culture.

All these organs play different roles in your life but they have one thing in common, that is, they are supposed to inculcate right values. The basic process of value formation by these organs is that they prescribed what is right or wrong for people.

In order to ensure that right things are followed by people, these organs develop a reward and punishment system. When people adopt right things, they are rewarded. When people adopt wrong things, they are punished.

In order to get reward and avoid punishment, people tend to adopt right things. Reward and punishment are not necessarily in the form of material things but also in socio-psychological form, that is giving social acceptance or rejection. Thus the effectiveness of a particular organ of the society depends on what type of values it has prescribes and how effective its reward and punishment system is in inculcating those values. In the light of this, let us see how each of the above social organs inculcates values:

1. Family.
2. Education system.
3. Social groups.
4. Social culture.
