POST INTERVIEW ACTIONS Your actions are not over the moment your interview is over but there are some post-interview actions which you should undertake. There are two such actions: evaluation of your interview performance and writing of letter of thanks. Let us see what is required in each action. Evaluation of Interview Performance. During your career, your first interview may not be the last interview. Except in few cases, you may be required to attend further interviews even if you are selected in the very first interview. You may be required to attend the interview for promotion within the same organization. You may be required to attend interview to switch over from your resent organization to another organization. In some cases, such a switch over is frequent, for example, information technology. Therefore, evaluate your interview performance and identify how you can do better in a subsequent interview. In evaluating your interview performance, you can take the criteria used for evaluating your performance in mock interview as discussed in chapter 3. Even if you have not gone through any mock interview exercise, you can evaluate your interview performance by taking those criteria. If you find your performance in the interview was not as per your expectation in terms of any of these criteria, find out reason for this. In the light of this reason, chalk out your plan for overcoming your deficiency. It is better that you write your deficiency, if any, in your personal diary so that you can take adequate safeguard against such deficiency. After all, experience of any type is to weed out undesirable practices and enhance desirable practices. This is true for an interview too.

Writing of Letter of Thanks. After your interview is over, you should write a letter of thanks to the organization concerned. In civil or certain other services of a government, this type of letter may not be of any significance but in the case of business organization or educational institutions, such a letter is of significant importance because of the following reasons: 1.Many of the organizations finalise the list of selected candidates after deliberation with higher up which normally takes place after some gap. If your letter reaches in time, your selection chances improves., 2.In case you are not selected, your letter along with your bio-data is likely to be placed in the file of prominent candidates who can be considered for future vacancies. A question arises: to whom this letter should be addressed? You can address your letter to the person who acted as chairman of interview panel if he has given his introduction. If no information is available about his name and/or designation, you may write to the head of human resource department of the organization. While writing such a letter, show your politeness and mention the favorable aspects of giving you an opportunity to be interviewed, kind of facilities provided, and the type of treatment meted. Avoid, at all cost, criticism of interviewers or interview facilities. Similarly, also avoid giving suggestions for improving interview process as such suggestions may be treated as criticisms.
