MOCK GROUP DISCUSSION

MOCK GROUP DISCUSSION :

At the final stage of preparation, have mock group discussion. The setting of the mock group discussion should be such it appears as real. Have 8 – 9 friends in your group with another 3 – 4 persons who will act as evaluators. Your group discussion session should last according to the time duration prescribed by the organization where you are intending to attend group discussion.

If there is no information about time duration or you do not have any clue about this, fix time duration of 40 minutes (45 minutes in the case of case-based group discussion). Out of these 40 minutes, about five minutes will be allocated for organizing ideas, 30 minutes for group discussion, and the remaining five minutes for evaluation.

After your mock group discussion session is over, have self-evaluation of your performance in the group discussion on the basis of the following questions:

1. Did I understand the topic correctly and organize yout thought accordingly?
2. Did I take initiative in starting the discussion or infusing new insights about the topic?
3. Did I show positive attitudes towards my fellow participants?
4. Did I listen to views of others attentively and empathetically to deduce correct meaning of the views expressed by them?
5. Did I show emotional maturity in dealing with others and their views?
6. Did I not let down anyone by saying such words which were against group norms?
7. Have I used only formal language during the group discussion?
8. Was my language simple and lucid according to the group requirement?
9. Did I address to the group as a whole and not to any individual?
10. Did I communicate persuasively?
11. Did I not interrupt anyone when he was talking?
12. Did I express my views fully and effectively?
13. Did I try to bring back the group to the norms when it was deviating from these?
14. Did I encourage others in the group to speak?
15. Did I create good last impression by summarizing the views expressed by various members?
