DISCUSSION :

After the initiation stage, main discussion stage starts. This stage is full of plenty of views and counterviews. Sometimes, these may be relevant; other times, these may be just for the sake of views and counterviews as everyone has to justify his presence by speaking something. Further, this stage may be quite frustrating to some candidates. This happens because many candidates believe in quantity and not in quality. Therefore, they try to speak as much as possible thereby thwarting the chance for others to speak:


They have a perception that more you speak, more attention you get from the evaluators. This is a totally damaging perception. It is true that those who speak more frequently are able to draw the attention of the evaluators but may be for a wrong reason. If substance is missing in these frequent speeches, such a practice goes against the candidates concerned.

Therefore adopt the maxim: If you chase quality, quantity will chase you. Do not feel bothered that others are speaking too much while you are not speaking that much. While speaking or listening, ensue that the core skills of group discussion – problem-solving skills, human skills, communication skills, initiative, and leadership skills (discussed earlier in previous pages) are reflected by you. Rest of the things will be done by the evaluators.
