APPROPRIATE BODY LANGUAGE

Examples of appropriate body language are given below:

Sitting on the Chair. Sit on the chair in straight form but in comfortable way and look at the interviewers who is in front of you. Your legs should be apart. Your arms should be parallel to your body. This posture suggests that you are open and relaxed. Sitting in bend form with legs crossing each other shows nervousness and being defensive. Similarly, hands crossed on chest shows defensiveness and hands clapped behind back represent anger, frustration, and apprehension, head resting in hand indicates boredom

Handshake. If you are offered handshake by the interviewers, have a firm handshake. This reflects that your personality is strong which is liked by most of the interviewers. Limp handshake indicates weak personality.

Eye contact. Maintain eye contact with the interviewer who is talking to you or with whom you are talking but do not stair. Do not let your eyes wander away from your interviewer. This posture shows confidence and attentiveness. Looking down or face turned away indicates disbelief. If another interviewer sitting on opposite side of the interviewer mentioned earlier, asks a question to you, tilt your head to maintain proper eye contact.

Voice. It is important to project yourself confidently in a clear, controlled, and steady voice that can be easily understood. For this purpose, you can follow the following guidelines:

Pause a little while giving an answer of a question put by an interviewer. This avoids instinctively reacting and saying wrong things.

Speak clearly in a controlled range of tones avoiding monotone.

Speak slightly slower than normal but do not overdo it.

Vary your tones according to the needs but do not speak too loudly or too softly.

Do not mumble or gabble on excitedly.

Keep your hands away from your mouth while you are speaking.

Facial Expression. Facial expression is very important in an interview as most of the time, the interviewer keep their attention on your face as compared to other parts of your body. For making your facial expression impressive, you can adopt the following measures:

Keep your face slightly smiling so that you appear to be happy and confident.

Whenever any occasion comes in the interview which makes the interviewers laugh with laughter sound, join them but only with a big smile without any sound.

If you have not understood any question or narration of an interviewer, avoid bringing surprise or disbelief expression on your face. Keep your facial expression as usual and ask for more clarity. This will reflect your confidence.
