Textile Designers
Textile designing is a vast field. There are different types of textile and yarns which are used for making furnishing material, fabrics for making garments, towels, laces and nets. A large number of people are involved in textile designing industry. Textile designer should have knowledge of different kinds of fabric and yarns. As this is very technical subject The designers should have knowledge of knitting machines, types of looms used for weaving yarn, dyeing and finishing processes. They should thoroughly study the different types of printing processes like block, stencil, roller and silk screens. Today designers use combination of different methods to produce a good quality and attractive fabric.
There are so many institutes and colleges which trained the students in this field. Vocational courses are provided at vocational training colleges and at polytechnics. After 10 + 2 one can join this course. Three year degree course on bachelor of fashion designing is also provided by some of important colleges. Fashion institute such as NIFT, IIFT(International institute of fashion technology), NID(National institute of design) and Women’s Polytechnic offer certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses in textile designing.

The Indian textile designers has made prominent place in the world market. This is a very creative field. The more creative you are the more you will be in demand. Today is the time of specialization. Designers also prefer to specialize. They also have different areas of specialization like men’s suit, shirts, jackets, designing, of ladies and children dress material and home furnishing material. Designing includes fabric designing as well as dress designing also.
Textile designing is basically designing of fabric which includes fabric printing, dyeing, embroidery and design development. Designers like to specialize as design developers, color specialists, hand painters, screen painters and printing supervisors. The designer’s job is to research design according to the texture of the textile. They study market which includes needs of the customer, design trends, popular colors and yarn. After that they use their creativity to produce design according to the demand of the market. They present their designs on graph paper or through CAD systems. While creating designs they have to keep in mind the use of the fabric, its durability, weight and texture. For this they take the help of textiles technicians and technologists for making necessary adjustments to the designs.
The designer should have a creative imagination, sense of colors and good hand in drawing only then he can produce attractive designs. A designer has to sit for long hours to draw and color the design. It needs lots of patience and hard work to get excellent results. They should be aware of latest trends and fashions. They should also have effective communication skills to illustrate their design effectively. The computer aided designs are also very much in demand these days. Therefore computer knowledge is also must for a successful designer.
Designer with a caliber can earn a handsome amount of money as textile designer jobs. One can work as free lancer or can join government and private firms. As this field is quite vast so are the opportunities of employment.
